Christians Pointed to Jesus as New York Marked 25 Years Since 9/11
As Americans remembered the nearly 3,000 lives lost on Sept. 11, Christians pointed people toward Jesus Christ in Lower Manhattan.

Twenty-five years after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, New York City marked the anniversary with ceremonies and gatherings honoring the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives.
Among those in Lower Manhattan were Christians seeking to lead people toward Jesus Christ.
The National September 11 Memorial & Museum remained a central place of remembrance as visitors gathered at the site of the former World Trade Center to honor those who died. The Christian Post reported that people from around the country and the world traveled to New York for the 25th anniversary.
The anniversary brought renewed attention to the events of September 11, 2001, when terrorists hijacked four commercial airplanes in the deadliest terrorist attack on U.S. soil. Two planes were flown into the World Trade Center towers in New York City, a third struck the Pentagon, and a fourth crashed in Pennsylvania after passengers attempted to regain control of the aircraft.
A total of 2,977 people were killed.
For Christians, remembering such a tragedy can also be an opportunity to point people toward the hope found in Christ.
The Bible does not promise believers a life without suffering. Instead, Scripture repeatedly points people toward God in the middle of grief, loss, and uncertainty.
Psalm 34:18 says, “The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
That message remained relevant 25 years after the attacks.
The people who visited the memorial did not all carry the same memories. Some had lost family members or friends. Others witnessed the attacks firsthand. Still others were born after 2001 and knew the tragedy primarily through history.
Yet the questions surrounding death, suffering, and eternity remained.
For Christians, the answer was not found in pretending tragedy did not hurt. It was found in Jesus.
In John 11:25, Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die."
That promise does not erase grief, but it offers hope beyond it.
The 25th anniversary of 9/11 was therefore more than an opportunity to remember the past. It was also an opportunity for Christians to consider whether they were willing to speak about the eternal hope they had been given.
Jesus commanded His followers to “go and make disciples of all nations” in Matthew 28:19. That command did not change because the message might be difficult to hear.
As New York remembered the lives lost 25 years earlier, Christians used the occasion to point beyond the tragedy to Jesus Christ, whom they believe offers the hope of eternal life.
