Glorious Grace

There was a time in my life when I thought that I had my entire life figured out. I knew what I wanted, where I wanted to go, and what I needed to do to get there. I had all of these goals, ambitions, and a vision of what my future would look like.

As a little girl, journalism was my passion. I loved writing and dreamed of making a career out of it, so much that I would watch the news every night and read our local paper, envisioning being part of a major network. However, after graduating college, my interests and ambitions took me in another direction.

I became a career woman in a completely different field, earning decent money and eventually pursuing a master's degree in clinical mental health counseling. I wanted to become a therapist, and I was determined to make that dream a reality.

I was newly married, working toward my goals, and building the future I had always dreamed of. I didn't just dream about becoming a therapist and helping people. I lived it.

I earned my master's degree, completed all three of my internships, and worked with clients who wanted to continue seeing me.

I had invested years of my life into preparing for that career. I thought I knew exactly where my life was headed.

There was just one thing I didn't consider, however; those were my plans, not God's.

When Jesus Changed Everything

Then something happened that I never could have anticipated. Jesus ambushed me, on Resurrection Sunday of all days. I didn't believe in God at that time. That's a long testimony for another day, but I can tell you this much: My entire way of thinking changed in an instant.

When I say in an instant, I mean that it was like someone flipped on a light switch.

Everything I once thought I knew suddenly looked different. My perspective on life changed so dramatically that it felt as though everything I had previously believed had gone out the window, just at the blink of an eye.

It wasn't something that gradually happened over months or years. The change in my thinking was immediate. I was red-pilled, so to speak.

However, having my eyes opened and learning to surrender every aspect of my life to God were two very different things. That second part would take years.

Through trials and tribulations, I began learning what it truly meant to trust God instead of relying on my own understanding. It wasn't an easy journey, and I certainly didn't get everything right along the way.

I'm still learning. It's a daily walk.

A Life I Never Imagined

Fast-forward to today, and my life looks nothing like the one I had planned. I'm now a stay-at-home mom, homeschooling my daughter and crusading for Jesus through Glorious Grace.

If someone had told me years ago that I would be operating a website dedicated to sharing biblical truth, encouraging others in their faith, and pointing people toward Jesus, I probably would have laughed in their face, yet here I am.

The little girl who dreamed of becoming a famous journalist is writing again, except now, my greatest desire isn't to build a successful career or make a name for myself. It's to point people to Jesus, which is why I haven't disclosed my identity or shown pictures of myself. It's not about me; it's all about Jesus. If He wants me to reveal myself, I will, but until then, my goal is to share parts of my testimony to show others that it's never too late and you're never too far gone for God to use you.

I never imagined that God would use the very skills He gave me to share His grace, mercy, and truth with others, and I certainly never imagined that the experiences I've had, including my mistakes and shortcomings, could become part of my testimony.

I don't share these things because I have everything figured out. Far from it and honestly, I probably never will. I share them because I want others to understand that God's grace is greater than our past, our failures, and the plans we once made for ourselves.

If He can save someone like me, anyone and everyone can be saved.

Learning to Live One Day at a Time

One of the greatest changes in my life has been the way that I approach the future. I used to plan years ahead. I had a picture in my mind of how everything was supposed to unfold. Now, I take life one day at a time.

Every morning when I pray, I tell God that I'm not going to worry about tomorrow or spend my time thinking about what might happen or what I need. Instead, I thank Him for providing for me today.

That's something I had to learn.

The Bible reminds us in Proverbs 27:1 (KJV), “Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.”

James also warns us about making plans as though tomorrow is guaranteed:

“Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.” — James 4:14

Plus, Jesus Himself tells us, “Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.” (Matthew 6:34)

I used to think that having my future all figured out meant that I was prepared for whatever life might bring. Now, I understand that I never had control over tomorrow in the first place.

That doesn't mean I have stopped caring about my future or that I never think about what lies ahead. It means that I'm learning not to let tomorrow steal the peace and gratitude that I can have today.

I still have struggles. I still make mistakes. I still have things that God is working on in me. I'm not a finished product, and I don't pretend to be, but I have learned that I don't need to know every detail of what comes next.

As Proverbs 16:9 tells us, “A man's heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps.”

I don't know where God will lead me next, what tomorrow will bring, or what He has planned for Glorious Grace. What I do know is that He has provided for me today, and for that, I am extremely thankful.

There was a time when I thought that I needed to have my entire life planned out. Today, I'm content to place those plans in His hands, one day at a time.
