The investigation into a Kentucky pastor accused of sexual offenses involving minors has expanded after another person came forward with allegations dating back more than a decade.
Scott C. Hughes, 54, of Somerset, was arrested Oct. 1 at his home following an investigation by the Pulaski County Sheriff's Office.
According to the Pulaski County Sheriff's Office, a Crimes Against Children detective received information about alleged sexual contact involving Hughes and individuals who were minors at the time. Authorities said those allegations involve conduct in Pulaski County beginning in 2018.
Hughes was charged with second-degree sodomy, third-degree sodomy, first-degree sexual abuse and other offenses, according to authorities.
LEX 18 reported, citing court documents, that Hughes also faces a charge of incest involving a person under 18.
The investigation expanded Tuesday when Pulaski County Sheriff Bobby Jones announced that another alleged victim had come forward.
The individual, now an adult, told authorities that Hughes allegedly committed sexual offenses in 2012 and 2013, LEX 18 reported. Since the alleged incidents occurred outside Pulaski County, authorities said the information will be forwarded to the appropriate law enforcement agency.
Jones encouraged anyone with information to contact law enforcement.
“Investigations like this can take time, particularly when the alleged conduct occurred years ago,” Jones said.
Hughes has served as pastor of several Kentucky churches.
LEX 18 reported that he previously served as pastor of Eubank Baptist Church and First Baptist Bronston. Both churches acknowledged the allegations and asked for prayer for those affected.
At the time of his arrest, Hughes was pastor of Pleasant View Baptist Church in Waynesburg.
Pleasant View Baptist Church confirmed that Pleasant View placed Hughes on administrative leave Oct. 2 and relieved him of his duties while the investigation continues. Church leaders said they were “deeply concerned” and committed to handling the situation with care and integrity.
Hughes previously worked for Sunrise Children's Services, a Christian organization serving children and families in Kentucky.
In a written statement, Sunrise said Hughes worked for the organization from May 2022 through June 2024 in its Adolescent Alcohol and Other Drug Entity program in Bronston.
Sunrise said its hiring procedures include reference and background checks and that the organization is prepared to cooperate with authorities as the investigation continues.
The organization also cautioned against speculation while the legal process is underway.
None of the sources reviewed by Glorious Grace reported that the allegations against Hughes involve children who received services through Sunrise.
Hughes is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 12, according to Baptist Press. The Pulaski County Sheriff's Office said its investigation remains ongoing.
The charges and additional accusations against Hughes are allegations and have not been proven in court.
